Nestling within the group of islands
that surround Shetland 's old capital, Scalloway, is the isle of Papa.
Virtually untouched during the three quarters of a century since the
last human inhabitants left, Papa, in the care of it's seabirds, wildlife
and sheep, has returned to nature.
As the island is home to a flock of sheep, it has not been completely
abandoned and, regular visits are made to check on their wellbeing. Most
notable among these is the anuual late spring/early summer trip to clip
and gather the wool giving the farmer the opportunity to closely inspect
each animal.
Hopefully, this small series of photographs will tell the story
a little better than we can.
