The Shetland yarn used to knit this garment needs a bit of care to keep it looking good.
For best results, hand wash in warm water using soap flakes.
Don't rub the fabric as this may cause it to felt. Rinse well.
Squeeze gently to remove any excess water, then roll in a dry towel until all the moisture has been absorbed, remove from towel.
Always dry flat, or on a frame, away from direct sunlight.
When making the top, the lace section, shown in white, needs to be pressed out to the required length and width and it can be a bit tricky. There is another method you may like to try. Before making up the garment, wash it following the guidelines above. Spread out the top as shown in A, in the towel. Remove the top from the rolled-up towel. Have ready a large towel (or sheet). Now pin out the top on to the towel stretching gently, see B and C, until it reaches the measurements given in the instructions.
Allow to dry before sewing up.
Doing it this way gives you more time for minor adjustments and makes it simpler to sew up.
