Back and Front, both alike
Using 4.5 mm 80 cm long needle cast on 160(176,192) stitches. Join
work and place marker to show start of round. Starting with a purl
row work garter pattern for 15 rounds. Change to 5.5 mm 80 cm needle
and stocking stitch work until it measures 18", (19", 20")
it should be about 100,(105, 110) rounds.
Armhole drop and separation of back and front.
Knit 4 stitches and put these on a holder. Knit 72,(80,88) stitches,
knit and put the next 8 stitches on a holder, knit 72,(80,88) stitches
put next 4 stitches on holder. Turn and working on this 72,(80,88)
stitches work a further 39 rows in stocking stitch (ending with a
wrong side row). Change to 4.5mm needle and garter stitch pattern
starting with a purl row work 15 rows.
Shoulder Shaping
Row 1 Knit to end
Row 2 Purl 56,(60,64) stitches. Turn leaving end 16,(20,24) stitches
on holder.
Row 3 Knit 40,(40,40) stitches. Turn leaving end 16,(20,24)
stitches on holder.
At this stage you can leave the centre 40 stitches on spare yarn
and knit the neck in the round when you have the other side completed.
Rejoin yarn at armhole and complete to match first side.
Join Shoulders
With right sides together, using the cast off together method,
join the back to the front at the shoulders.
Rejoin yarn and using 4.5 mm 40cm needle pick up stitches from back
and front for neck. Starting with a purl row work 15 rows of garter
pattern. Cast off loosely purlwise.
Sleeves worked from the top.
With 5.5 mm 40cm needle and right side facing pick up and knit
4 stitches from 1st holder , then using knit through method make
36 stitches evenly up 1st side, make 36 stitches evenly down 2nd
side and pick up and knit 4 stitches from 2nd holder. Place marker
at underarm. 80,(80,80) stitches for all sizes.
Working in stocking stitch work 25,(20,15) rows decrease 1 stitch at
beginning end of next and every following 4th row to 105,(100, 95)
rows and 40 stitches for all sizes. Change to 4.5mm 40cm needle work
15 rows garter stitch pattern. Cast off loosely purlwise. Complete
2nd sleeve to match.
