MATERIALS

650g Soft Spun Yarn

3.50 mm Needles for rib

4.50 mm Needles for stocking stitch

Stocking Stitch Tension 9 Stitches = 2" (5 cm)

12 Rows = 2" (5cm)

BACK

Using 3.50 mm needles cast on 90 stitches.

Row 1 *Knit 2, Purl 2* repeat from * to* to last 2 stitches Knit 2

Row 2 *Purl 2, Knit 2* repeat from *to* to last 2 stitches Purl 2

Repeat these 2 rows until rib measures 5 1/2 " (14 cm) (approx. 38 rows)

Change to 4.50 mm needles and stocking stitch ( 1 row knit, 1 row purl) continue until work measures 18" (46 cm) from cast on edge ending with a purl row (approx 76 rows of stocking stitch). You may want to adjust length at this stage.

Armhole drop

Mark each end of next row with contrasting yarn.

Raglan decreases

Row 1 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, knit to last 4 stitches, Purl 2 together, Knit 2

Row 2 Purl

Row 3 Knit 2, Purl 1, knit to last 3 stitches, Purl 1, Knit 2

Row 4 Purl

Repeat these 4 rows 3 more times.

Row 1 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, knit to last 4 stitches, Purl 2 together, Knit 2

Row 2 Purl

Repeat these 2 rows, 22 times more, until 36 stitches remain (60 rows) put these stitches on a contrasting thread or stitch holder.

FRONT

Work as for back until 20 decreases (40 rows) have been worked and 50 stitches remain.

Neck shaping.

Row 1 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Knit 9, Purl 1, Knit 2. Turn

Row 2 and every alternate row. Purl to end

Row 3 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Knit 7, Purl 2 together, Knit 2.

Row 5 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Knit 6, Purl 1, Knit 2.

Row 7 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Knit 4, Purl 2 together, Knit 2.

Row 9 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Knit 3, Purl 1, Knit 2.

Row 11 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Knit 1, Purl 2 together, Knit 2.

Row 13 Knit 2, Purl 2 together, Purl 1, Knit 2.

Row 14 Purl. Put these 6 stitches on to a contrasting thread.

Put 18 centre stitches on to a contrasting thread and, starting at neck edge, join knitting yarn in to shape 2nd part of neck. Work as for 1st part but remember to reverse shaping.

SLEEVES

With 3.50 mm needles cast on 42 stitches

Row 1 *Knit 2, Purl 2* repeat from * to * to last 2 stitches, Knit 2

Row 2 *Purl 2, Knit 2* repeat from * to * to last 2 stitches, Purl 2

Repeat these rows 4 times more. 10 rows in total.

Change to 4.50 mm needles.

Increase 6 stitches evenly across 1st knit row of stocking stitch.

Continue in stocking stitch increasing 1 stitch at each end of every 5th row until 80 stitches and 80 rows. You may wish to make adjustments to the sleeve length at this stage. Work 2 more rows and work armhole shaping as for back ending with 6 stitches.

NECK

Starting by matching contrasting yarns, sew up raglans using a mattress stitch. Using 3.50 mm needles, on 1st needle pick up stitches for neck, starting at back left, knit 2 stitches at each end of each panel together giving 4 stitches on 1st sleeve, 4 stitches at 1st front, make 8 stitches at 1st side of neck, pick up 18 stitches at front of neck, make 8 stitches at 2nd side of neck, 4 stitches at 2nd front, 4 stitches on 2nd sleeve, on 2nd needle pick up and knit 34 stitches. (80 stitches)

Row 1 *Knit 2, Purl 2* repeat to end.

Repeat this row 9 more times.

Cast off.

FINISHING

Sew up side and sleeve seams using mattress stitch. Finish in all ends. Hand wash and dry flat. Shape whilst still damp.

Repeat these 2 rows until rib measures 5 1/2 " (14 cm) (approx. 38 rows)

Change to 4.50 mm needles and stocking stitch ( 1 row knit, 1 row purl) continue until work measures 19" (48 cm)from cast on edge ending with a purl row (approx 86 rows of stocking stitch). You may want to adjust length at this stage.

Armhole drop

Mark each end of next row with contrasting yarn.
